Jane, a wetland ecologist, will talk about wetlands, and how they are currently of scientific interest for their role in carbon storage, but that has not always been how they have been valued.  An historical perspective of wetland values and their changes say more about human society than about wetlands.

Abstract

Wetlands are currently of scientific interest for their role in carbon storage, but that hasn’t always been how wetlands have been valued.  An historical perspective of wetland values and their changes says more about human society than about wetlands; with local examples reflecting the growth of the national capital.

Biography

Dr Jane Roberts, is a wetland ecologist, and Adjunct Professor University of Canberra and a Board Member of Woodlands and Wetlands Trust.  For the last 20 years, Jane has worked as an ecological consultant on vegetation of wetlands, rivers and floodplains in the southern Murray-Darling Basin, especially in relation to water management.
