Plant Science Group Meeting
You are here
Date: Monday 4 November at 10.30 am
Venue: Crosbie Morrison Building, ANBG
Topic: Ecology and pollination biology of the cycad Macrozamia communis
Presenter: Thomas Wallenius
Background Information: Cycad pollination typically involves an interaction with a specialised insect herbivore, during a short period when the male cycad cones shed pollen and the female cones are receptive. Thomas will discuss the reproductive biology of our local Macrozamia, which involves the cones heating up and emitting volatile organic compounds which affect the behaviour of the weevil pollinators.
Thomas has recently completed his PhD at ANU's Research School of Biology.
