Photographic Group monthly meeting Friday, 2 May 2014 - 10:30am to 11:30am

ANBG Friends Photographic Group monthly meeting will be held in the Theatrette opposite the Visitors Centre. Member Stewart Hogben will talk about exposure compensation, how and when to use it. Show and tell will be about pictures taken in the glasshouse. For ANBG Friends only.

Dr Saul Cunningham 'Bees and the Future of Pollination in Australia' Thursday, 1 May 2014 - 12:30pm

Saul will discuss the importance of bees to ecosystems - as pollinators of native plants and many crops.

'Offshoots' exhibition of works by Julie McEnerny Friday, 25 April 2014 - 12:00am to Monday, 16 June 2014 - 11:45pm

A travelling exhibition of drawings, paintings and etchings, based on five years collaboration between Julie and Cairns Botanic Gardens.

Julie is also giving a talk on Thursday 8 May at 12.30 pm.

Dr Jake Gillen ‘An introduction to the Landscape Ecology of the Cooper Creek Floodplain Region in South Australia’ Thursday, 24 April 2014 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Jake will discuss the main vegetation communities encountered within the region and the factors driving their distribution, both laterally across the floodplain and longitudinally down the Cooper Creek system.

Dr Jake Gillen is a Visiting Fellow at the Fenner School of Environment and Society ANU.

Trevor Murray ‘Crested Pigeons: Communicating on the Wings of Sound’ Thursday, 17 April 2014 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Trevor will talk about recent research on the use of non-vocal communication of danger by the Crested Pigeon in the ANBG and surrounding suburbs.

Trevor Murray, a biologist at the Research School of Biology ANU, is undertaking his PhD on the alarm call communication of Crested Pigeons.

Simon Gould ‘The Regeneration of Australia’s Landscape Imperative’ Thursday, 10 April 2014 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Australia has some 770 million hectares of land, with around 470 million hectares of this being farmed or grazed at various intensities. Simon will discuss the fact that, despite good practices of a number of land managers and farmers allied to some good science, the realities of an increasingly arid and degraded landscape are being experienced across the country.

Growing Friends Autumn Plant Sale Saturday, 5 April 2014 - 8:30am to Sunday, 6 April 2014 - 9:45am

The Growing Friends autumn plant sale will be held on Saturday 5th April in the small car park behind the Crosbie Morrison building. Plants will be on sale from 8:30 am to 11:00 am or until sold out. A list of plants for sale is available.
