Jake will discuss the main vegetation communities encountered within the region and the factors driving their distribution, both laterally across the floodplain and longitudinally down the Cooper Creek system. Trevor will talk about recent research on the use of non-vocal communication of danger by the Crested Pigeon in the ANBG and surrounding suburbs. Trevor Murray, a biologist at the Research School of Biology ANU, is undertaking his PhD on the alarm call communication of Crested Pigeons. |

Australia has some 770 million hectares of land, with around 470 million hectares of this being farmed or grazed at various intensities. Simon will discuss the fact that, despite good practices of a number of land managers and farmers allied to some good science, the realities of an increasingly arid and degraded landscape are being experienced across the country. |
