The Friends' Photography Group is fairly new. For the first time, members are mounting an exhibition in the Visitor Information Centre. They share a common bond of photography and pleasure in exploring the Gardens. The Exhibition’s contributing members have different photographic experiences and skills, and use a wide variety of cameras. |

The Friends' 2014 Twilight Dinner will be held at Cafe Floresco in the Gardens. Our after-dinner speaker is Catriona Anderson from the National Library of Australia. This is a Friends only event, members may invite one guest. The cost is $70 per person, which includes a pre-dinner drink, canapes, main course, dessert and tea/coffee. Anna played a key role in the first BioBlitz held in Canberra, as a Centenary event - a collaboration of scientists, naturalists, citizen scientists and members of the public working together to discover, identify and record a snapshot of the region’s biodiversity. She will talk about its participants and its findings. Anna See is Coordinator with the Molonglo Catchment Group and was Convenor of the BioBlitz Committee.

The Friends of the ANBG Photographic Group will exhibit in the ANBG Visitor Centre a collection of photographs taken in the Gardens and inspired by the animals, birds, plants and landscapes found there. |

Matthew considers why the ACT border is where it is, who the surveyors were, how they marked the border and what they experienced. This is a tale of three young men – two of whose names are commemorated in modern Canberra- working partly in some of Australia’s most rugged mountain country and living under canvas. One of them got snowed-in, two had young wives with them, while one drove a Model T Ford and had a quirky sense of humour. The surveyors’ field books are archives of considerable heritage significance and historical interest. |

Mark will launch the 2014 Thursday Talks program by talking about his ‘postie bike’ trip after retirement from the ABC, where he imparted a gardening flavour to the nightly weather news. Mark Carmody has spent many years gardening in Canberra at ACT Parks and Conservation, the National Rose Gardens and as head gardener at The Lodge.
