Judy, Executive Director, will give some insights to the ANBG and its key roles, nationally and internationally, in conservation of flora.

Biography

Dr Judy West, Executive Director of the Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG), and Assistant Secretary within Parks Australia. Besides providing leadership and direction of our national institution the ANBG, she is also responsible for developing and implementing a program of Parks Partnerships and oversight of Science Policy for Parks.

Judy has more than 35 years’ experience in scientific research and policy as a research scientist. For her contributions to Australian plant systematics and Australia’s Virtual Herbarium, she was awarded the Nancy Burbidge Memorial Medal in 2001 and an Order of Australia in 2003. Judy’s scientific expertise and interests are in plant systematics and phylogenetics, and conservation biology.

Lunchtime talks are held at 12.30 pm every Thursday from February to November.  Talks last for 1 hour.  We welcome a gold coins donation. The Friends use donations received at each talk to support Gardens’ programs and development and thank all those who have donated.  Please note: unless otherwise indicated, talks are in the ANBG Theatrette.

Bookings are a good idea in order to reserve a seat at the talks you wish to attend; some talks book out very quickly.  Bookings can be made from the Friday before the talk until Wednesday night before the talk or until seating limits are reached.
