Photography Group Annual General Meeting Friday, 25 October 2019 - 10:30am

In the ANBG Theatrette (opposite the Visitors Centre).

Annual General Meeting of the Photography Group:  a new committee will be elected to steer the Group through the coming 12 months.

Following the business of the AGM, Brian Moir, a member of the Photographic Group, will talk on Post-processing – an overview.

Dr Lydia Guja ‘The Seedy Side of Alpine Bogs and Fens’ Thursday, 24 October 2019 - 12:30pm

Lydia, Seed Conservation Biologist and Manager of the National Seed Bank, will speak on the conservation of endangered alpine bogs and fens, and share new results on research into seed dormancy and germination of bog and fen plants, highlighting the important role seeds play in ensuring the persistence of these communities.

Bushland Nature Walk Thursday, 24 October 2019 - 10:00am to 11:30am

The Bushland Nature Walk meanders through the Bushland Precinct of the Australian National Botanic Gardens, and is part of the local Black Mountain environment. The walk takes you through open forest and features expansive views to Canberra City and Parliament House. Many of the plants are labelled and you will find interpretive signs about the biodiversity, fire ecology and soil of the area. The walk culminates at a viewing platform offering spectacular views across Lake Burley Griffin. Return is via the same path.

Wake Up With The Birds Sunday, 20 October 2019 - 7:45am to 9:15am

The Friends of the Australian National Botanic Gardens present Wake Up With the Birds.

This is a wonderful opportunity to observe some of Canberra's amazing bird life in the beautiful surrounds of the Australian National Botanic Gardens.

Stroll through the Gardens early on a spring morning when the birds are nesting and are at their most active. Each small group is led by a knowledgeable guide. After the walk you are welcome to stay on for coffee or breakfast at Pollen, the Gardens Café.

The Friends of the Australian National Botanic Gardens present Wake Up With the Birds.

This is a wonderful opportunity to observe some of Canberra's amazing bird life in the beautiful surrounds of the Australian National Botanic Gardens.

Stroll through the Gardens early on a spring morning when the birds are nesting and are at their most active. Each small group is led by a knowledgeable guide. After the walk you are welcome to stay on for coffee or breakfast at Pollen, the Gardens Café.

Friends of the ANBG - Annual General Meeting 2019 Thursday, 17 October 2019 - 5:30pm

The 31st Annual General Meeting of the Friends of the ANBG will be held on Thursday 17 October 2019 at 5.30 pm in the Theatrette at the Gardens.

Light refreshments will be served from 5pm in the Dickson Room.

Elections will be held for the position of Vice President, Secretary and two ordinary members of Council.

The AGM will be followed by a discussion of the arrangements for the 30th Anniversary of the Friends of the Australian National Botanic Gardens in 2020.

Professor Simon Haberle ‘The Wonders of Pollen: A Truly Canberra Perspective’ Thursday, 17 October 2019 - 12:30pm

Simon, from the ANU, will focus on the remarkable part pollen is playing in the science of food, health and history.  He will explore its use in the science of honey, allergy studies and the deep-time history of our environment – each told using examples of research from the Canberra region.
