Detail of ANBG Library screen

Things have been busy behind the scenes in the ANBG Library this year with a major upgrade to a new library computer system. The new system offers significant improvements to the previous ten-year-old system, and will enable you to keep track of your loans and renew items online. With the transition completed, borrowing for the Friends is now available. Thank you for your patience and understanding while this major project was taking place.

In line with hygiene and social distancing guidelines, physical visits to the ANBG Library will not be resuming at present. However, a new service has been introduced to enable borrowing to be done safely and easily via the Visitor Centre. Details on how to use the new service process are below:

Returning books

If you had borrowed items earlier in the year, you can now return via the front desk at the Visitor Centre.

Borrowing books

To borrow books, search on the new library catalogue at

The library catalogue search is at the top of the page.

A link to a step-by-step tutorial on searching in the new catalogue is in the middle of the screen.

Please note:

The new catalogue is the same one used by staff. There are links on this page and the ‘Discovery’ search screen in the middle of the page, which are staff tools and will only work for staff.

Please use the library search box for the most accurate and best experience of finding library books.

Once you have located items you would like to borrow, you can either:

  • contact the ANBG Library via email or phone 6250 9480 to request the books; or
  • if you have a Library account (see below), log in and request the items online.

The books will be retrieved by the Librarian and issued to you. You will be notified when the books are available for you to collect from the front desk of the Visitor Centre.

Normal reference and research assistance from the Librarian will continue for Friends as it has through the pandemic, via email or phone.

Your Library Account

A new feature of the library system is the ability to view items you have on loan and to renew them. If you would like to have this option enabled, please send an email from your current email address to and you will be sent login details.

Once set up, simply go to ‘External Login’ on the library homepage and enter your login details.

A link to a full tutorial on how to login to your account is available on the new library catalogue homepage. (Be sure to view the ‘External members’ How to login to your library account guide).

As always, if you require assistance please contact the library via email at or phone 6250 9480 between 9.30am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
