Bronwyn Collins ‘Training the future: 30 years of the Volunteer Botanical Training Program’

Bronwyn, from Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research, will look at the history of the program, outcomes for participants and some of the more recent challenges in running a successful program.

Abstract
Beginning with the first small group of students hosted by the then Australian National Botanic Gardens Herbarium in 1993 the Volunteer Botanical Training Program has trained and mentored over 300 students. For 3 decades participants have received training in collections curation and provided assistance to both curatorial and research staff at the Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research.

Biography
Bronwyn Collins began her career in herbaria as a trainee in 1998 at the Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research. She has undertaken a number of different roles as part of the Australian National Herbarium curatorial team. Among her current responsibilities she is the Coordinator of the Volunteer Botanical Training Program.

Lunchtime talks are held at 12.30 pm every Thursday from February to November.  Talks last for 1 hour.  We welcome donations by gold coins, notes, or electronically. The Friends use donations received at each talk to support Gardens’ programs and development and thank all those who have donated.  Please note: unless otherwise indicated, talks are in the ANBG Theatrette.

It is a good idea to reserve a seat at the talks that you wish to attend; several talks are booked out very quickly.  Bookings can be made from the Friday before the talk until Wednesday night before the talk or until seating limits are reached.
