Our projects
The ANBG’s mission is to inspire, inform and connect people with Australian flora. We help the ANBG achieve this by funding projects consistent with the Gardens mission.
Funding comes mainly from Membership fees but other sources are:
- tax-deductible donations
- moneys raised through sales of plants, artwork and photographic work; and
- guided walks and tours, social activities, and donations at Thursday Talks or from other sources.
In consultation with the Garden’s management, we identify and assess potential projects. All proposals must be consistent with the ANBG Management Plan, and with the purposes and objectives of the Friends.
Projects are spread across the main roles and functions of the Gardens. In recent years Friends:
- purchased some iconic large plants for the gardens surrounding the Conservatory
- funded research on the impact of climate change on alpine Euphrasia, and research on thermal tolerance of Australian native plants
- purchased microscopes for students to use while in the Gardens
- contributed to the establishment of the Banksia Garden; and
- contributed to redevelopment of the Friends Lawn adjacent to the cafe.
