Growing Friends

Are you interested in learning more about Australian native plants?

Then join the Growing Friends to learn how to propagate native plants and make new friends at the same time.

Our members are knowledgeable, interesting and friendly people who share a deep passion for the Australian flora and a desire to learn more about it.

Regular meetings

At our Saturday monthly meetings, we have a slide show and then a hands-on propagation session of plants that have been collected from within the Gardens.

Working bees are also held each Tuesday to check progress, pot on and nurture the cuttings taken and seeds propagated at our monthly meetings.

No experience is needed – an interest in native plants and a willingness to get your hands dirty is sufficient.

Any member of the Friends is welcome to join, so contact us if you would like to get involved.

Native Plant sales

Plants propagated at our sessions are usually sold to the public in Autumn and Spring each year. These sales are very popular because plants are chosen for their ability to grow in Canberra’s challenging climate. All proceeds go to support projects in the Gardens.

Our sales could not be so successful without all the help we receive from Gardens’ staff.

Information about the plants sold at the 8 March 2025 sale is available here.  The plant list from the October 2025 sale is here and you can find the March 2026 list here. Information about the planting and care of new plants is available here.

Our next plant sale will be the Spring plant sale to be held on Saturday 31 October. For more information about upcoming plant sales, keep an eye on the calendar.
