Plant Science Group

Friends are welcome to join this Group to learn about advances in Australian native plant research and some of the many challenges facing our plants and plant communities.

Regular talks

Recent talks have ranged across a variety of topics, e.g. thermal tolerance in threatened ecological communities, restoration of temperate grasslands and insights into how new species are discovered and named.

Talks are presented by staff from the Gardens, the Australian National University, other ACT based scientific institutions and, occasionally, by visiting overseas scientists.

You don’t need to have a scientific background – just an enthusiasm for knowledge like the presenters. Although the talks may be illustrated with graphs, tables and statistics, their significance is explained in terms that anyone can understand.

Other activities

Hands-on activities have included assistance with projects within the ANBG and an external collaborative research project into alpine seed and seedling ecology.

Membership of the Group is free and open to all current Friends of the Gardens. To join the Group and receive email notifications of meetings and other activities, email plantscience@friendsanbg.org.au with your name, email address, phone number and Friends of the ANBG membership number.
