Friends’ new online membership system

The Friends has a new membership management system, called Member Jungle, which will be launched soon.

Friends will be contacted progressively by email from 1 May, and asked to log on to our Member Portal and check their personal membership details.

Members without an email address in our current database will receive a letter showing the information held in the Membership Register so they can update it as necessary and provide an email address if they wish.

What is Member Jungle?

The new system is licensed from Member Jungle, an Australian firm specialising in software for managing membership payments, digital membership cards, events and communications online.

What will happen?

Your invitation email will show your login details for the new Member Portal. When you login you will be asked to set your own password. You can then check your personal profile and update your contact details. The email will include support contacts if you have questions or need help.

When will the online system handle renewals?

Renewals will commence in September 2026. The new system will offer the option of self-service renewals online. With the new system, you will be able to pay securely online by credit card, as well as by direct deposit.

Membership – what’s new, what will stay as is

The Friends have a new membership management system, called Member Jungle. A few things have changed, but many will not. Here’s what you need to know.

Unchanged

All existing memberships have been transferred to the new system, and will carry on with the same benefits and conditions as before. All existing 2026 membership cards and parking permits are still valid, and the Membership team will continue to send printed membership cards and parking permits in future.

Going online

The new system is available on the web, using our new Member Portal and mobile app. New members can join online, and existing members can renew their membership online. Members can log in to update their name, contact details, and other information.

Members can use a ‘digital member card’ in the Member Jungle mobile app if they wish.

We will send notifications, such as renewal reminders, to members’ email addresses if known. (This year we will also post out renewal reminders).

Staying offline

No-one will have to use the new system online if they cannot, or prefer not to. All the existing services provided by the Membership team will still be there for those who need them. For members without an email address, we will continue to post out renewal notifications as before.

Same help and support

Members can contact the Membership team as usual (by email, phone or letter) if they have queries or need assistance. The team will help members learning how to access their information online.

The team, as system administrators, will be able to make important changes (such as changing the type of membership) that members cannot do directly for themselves.

Some differences

The ‘secondary’ members in Household memberships will notice a couple of changes:

Please explain…

Why did we need a new system? The old one no longer met all our requirements; it needed a lot of manual effort by the Membership team; and was difficult to maintain. Members increasingly expect fast, easy online services; and printing and postage costs keep rising. It was time to update.

Is my personal information safe online? The new system meets the latest standards for protecting sensitive information. Importantly, it doesn’t need members to write down credit card information and send it by post – instead, card details are put through a highly secure online ‘payment gateway’ and are never stored in the membership system itself.
