A very Friendly library

ANBG Libarian, Jane
ANBG Librarian, Jane

Are you aware that one of the benefits of belonging to the Friends is that you are entitled to use the ANBG library? The Friends have always appreciated and supported the library and welcome Jane Black, who has recently joined the ANBG as their permanent full-time librarian. The library is open between 9:30 and 4:30 every day of the week. Jane produces a monthly newsletter, Library Connect, with information about recent acquisitions and other library news. Library Connect is available in the News section of the Friends Website

It is very easy to search the ANBG library catalogue for a particular book. The ANBG library collection covers a range of topics, such as Aboriginal plant use, herbaria, plant conservation, botanical illustration and horticulture. Many local native plant and botanical societies from around Australia contribute their newsletters, creating a valuable and unique sub-collection.

Library Connect June 2018

The June Library Connect includes a report on the very successful Library and Information Week last month. It also has reviews of some of the new books in the library, including 'Botanical Illustration : the essential reference' which members of the Botanical Art Groups will find particularly interesting. Sarah Martin's 'Bush Heritage Australia' will appeal to those of us who are interested in the preservation of Australia's wild places.

Black Mountain was declared a nature reserve on 23 July 1970. In the lead-up to the 50th anniversary of this declaration, the Friends of Black Mountain in association with the Molonglo Catchment Group is holding a Symposium at which invited speakers will give presentations summarising what we know about the area.

The Symposium is now fully booked. All 150 seats at the CSIRO Discovery Centre Theatre will be occupied.

Themed talks will be on Friday 24 August, followed by drinks and nibbles. Themed walks will be held on Black Mountain on the morning of Saturday 25 August 2018.
