Successful Growing Friends Plant Sale

The 2017 spring plant sale was held on Saturday 11th November in the small carpark behind the Crosbie Morrison Building in the Gardens. Suzi Bond was there to talk about plants that provide food for butterflies. She found it interesting to see the sale and to talk to some of the customers and Growing Friends. The sale raised $5918, all of which will go towards the many projects supported by the Friends.

he 2017 spring plant sale was  held on Saturday 11th November in the small carpark behind the Crosbie Morrison Building in the Gardens. Suzi Bond was there to talk about plants that provide food for butterflies. She found it interesting to see the sale and to talk to some of the customers and Growing Friends. The sale raised $5918, all of which will go towards the many projects supported by the Friends. Most plants went to the early customers and there was a steady stream until about 10:00. Wahlenbergia gloriosa, which had not been offered for sale before, was particularly popular. We closed up at 10:30 with about 20 plants to be put back.

New faces and old friends at the 2017 AGM

The 29th AGM of the Friends was held at the Gardens on Tuesday 31 October.

Three new Council members were elected: Jann Ollerenshaw as Secretary, and Wendy Antoniak and Linda Beveridge as Council members.

The President, Lesley Jackman, welcomed the new members and thanked the retiring Council members (David Cox, Jan Finley, and Rita Maclachlan) for their work and support.

John and Maureen Connolly were invested as life members of the Friends for their excellent and continuing contributions over many years.

Award ceremony for the 21st Friends of the ANBG Schools Photographic Competition

On Saturday 28 October the Friends hosted a lively ceremony in the Theatrette to award the prizes for the 21st Schools Photographic Competition. Many students were present, along with their families and teachers. See the list of prizewinners.

2017 Spring Plant Sale

Australian native plant sales are presented by the Growing Friends every spring and autumn.  Plants offered for sale are propagated from material sourced from the Australian National Botanic Gardens and all proceeds go to support the Gardens.

This year’s spring sale will be held on Saturday 11th November in the small carpark behind the Crosbie Morrison Building in the Gardens. 

Dr Suzi Bond will be available to sign copies of her book Field Guide of the Butterflies of the ACT and discuss plants that attract butterflies to the garden.
