The next weeding work party will be in the Frith Road area behind the ANBG again where we will be removing more Red Passionflower.
Meet:  Frith Road extension, Acton, behind CSIRO and ANBG. Park near the electricity substation. Look for banners
Bring:  Everyone is welcome.
Wear:  Hat, sunscreen, long-sleeved shirt, long pants, gloves, stout shoes.

Dr Patrick De Deckker - Vegetation changes in the Murray Darling Basin, deciphered from deep-sea cores taken offshore Kangaroo Island - NEW TOPIC Thursday, 1 July 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Unfortunately, Dr Bob Godfree will be unable to present the talk previously scheduled. In his place, Dr Patrick De Deckker will discuss vegetation changes in the  Murray Darling Basin oiver the last 125,000 years.

Dr Kathy Eyles - ‘50 years of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands’ NEW TOPIC Thursday, 24 June 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Australia was one of the first countries  to sign up and listed the world’s first Ramsar site, the Cobourg Peninsula in the NT. Kathy will provide an overview of the Convention in Australia and look at what’s happening at the local level to ensure the ‘wise use of our wetlands’.

Mid-Winter Talk: The Invertebrates of Black Mountain Tuesday, 22 June 2021 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

Following on from our previous successful talks, the Friends of Black Mountain are holding another midwinter talk this year. Our speaker will be Kim Pullen, an expert on the invertebrates of the Canberra region and Black Mountain.

About 2150 species of insects, arachnids, millipedes and velvet worms have been recorded on Black Mountain, although scientists studying them estimate that there are more than 5000 species of invertebrate in the reserve. Kim will introduce us to the diverse insect life on Black Mountain and its characteristics.

Peter Coyne - ‘Australia’s Amazing Orchids’ Thursday, 17 June 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Peter will talk about what makes orchids so exceptional, our local orchids and growing orchids in Canberra.

Off the Beaten Track - free guided walks in June Monday, 14 June 2021 - 11:00am to Sunday, 20 June 2021 - 2:00pm

A volunteer guide will take you to parts of the Gardens not frequently visited, to see beautiful plants in out-of-the-way spots. Each walk will feature some examples of work done by Gardens staff to conserve our vulnerable, threatened, and endangered native plants, as well as plants currently in flower.

Daily from Monday June 14th to Sunday June 20th, at 11am-12 noon and 2pm-3pm.

Meet at the clock near the rainforest bridge. No booking required.

Dr Alexander Schmidt-Lebuhn ‘How phylogenies inform biocontrol research’ Thursday, 10 June 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Alexander, from CSIRO, will talk evolutionary relationships between native flora and invasive weed species to ensure the safety of biological control measures, particularly daisies, and an unexpected outcome.

Emeritus Professor Patrick De Deckker '200 years of data for Lake George; facts, myths and legends’ Thursday, 3 June 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm
