Irene will present a short talk on ‘Events Photography’ with a strong focus on using flash. After the talk, Irene will provide us with more information on a guided walk in the Gardens. Irene is a professional photographer and runs the Canberra School of Photography; she also lectures at universities and TAFE. Irene is a member of the Friends Photographic Group. This talk will discuss the plans for biodiversity improvement, through ecologically sensitive planting and protection of vegetation during and after construction. Matthew, a professional historian, will give an illustrated presentation on the natural values found between Canberra and Mt Kosciuszko. He will focus mainly on the natural values, looking at animals, birds, plants, geology, water, snow, fire, climate and some underlying human stories of our high country. Cultural aspects of some species' stories will be discussed, and a little bushcraft thrown in. As well as celebrating biodiversity along the route, the talk will look at several key issues including feral species, local extinctions and climate change threats. |

John Majnikis the Senior Program Manager for the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation. He is responsible for the Plant Industry programs which include the Pasture Seeds, Rice, Ginger and the New and Emerging Industries R&D programs. John will give a broad-ranging talk on the latest research and development for Australian wildflowers. |
