Catriona Donnelly & Julie Ryder ‘Flowers of the Sea, and unravelling the identity of the Port Phillip seaweed album collector Thursday, 12 October 2017 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Catriona, a curator at National Museum of Australia, and Julie, a textile designer, reveal an album of pressed algae from Ireland, the Cape of Good Hope and the Port Phillip areas, and the sea-weed collector’s identity.

The Australian National Botanic Gardens provide a fantastic habitat for many of Canberra’s birds, with water and nectar in abundance.

It is marvellous to be in the Gardens early in the morning before they are open to the general public.

Brian Fox and Michael Keats ‘Gardens of Stone National Park’ Thursday, 5 October 2017 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Brian and Michael will describe their forays into the wilder parts of the Greater Blue Mountains National Parks. Along with learning about historic map makers and the origins of geographical names, abseiling, pack walking and canyoning add to the diversity of places to be visited and experiences to enjoy.

Brian Fox and Michael Keats jointly published “The Gardens of Stone National Park and beyond”, Books 1 to 6, 2011 to 2015.

Exposed - an exhibition by the Friends Photographic Group Thursday, 5 October 2017 - 12:00am to Sunday, 22 October 2017 - 11:45pm

“Exposed” is the title for the 2017 annual exhibition of the Friends Photographic Group.

It will be on show in the Visitors Information Centre gallery from Thursday 5 October to Sunday 22 October 2017, coinciding with the Guides Conference and Floriade.

The exhibition will comprise framed works, unframed mounted prints, cards and bookmarks. These will all be for sale, with a percentage of sales going to support the Friends.

A photo slide show will also be installed in the exhibition space.

ANBG Friends Photographic Group - Monthly meeting Friday, 29 September 2017 - 10:30am

The speaker for our September meeting is Phil McFadden

Subject: Landscape Photography

Phil McFadden is a keen photographer whose images have won silver and gold awards in international competitions. He will discuss why it is so hard to get a great landscape image, and give some pointers as to how to overcome the difficulties. There will also be a Show and Tell segment where members have the opportunity to show their recent photographs. Venue: ANBG Theatrette

Tom North: 'Kakadu – collecting, sweat and tears' Thursday, 28 September 2017 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Tom North is Curator of the National Seed Bank. He will talk about trips to Kakadu at various times of the year in order to capture as much as possible the seasonal variance in fruiting and masting events for target species.
