Genevieve Swifte's landscape drawing class Lessons on Trees – Drawing at the Australian National Botanic Gardens still has places available for this Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd of October.

This intensive weekend workshop will respond to the rich diversity of native flora on display. The workshop will begin on Saturday morning with an introduction to landscape art, materials and techniques, before heading for the trees with paper

Chris and Mae, aquatic ecologists at ANU, will explain why this iconic species can be an effective indicator of riverine health, and be a flagship for community efforts to conserve freshwater streams in south-east Australia.

During Floriade we offer an early morning walk at weekends. Join us for a 1½ hour guided walk to see many of the Gardens' amazing birds. This year we are not including breakfast but you are welcome to purchase a coffee or breakfast following the bird walk in Pollen – the Gardens Café.

The Australian National Botanic Gardens provide a fantastic habitat for many of Canberra’s birds, with water and nectar in abundance.

It is marvellous to be in the Gardens early in the morning before they are open to the general public.

Catriona, a curator at National Museum of Australia, and Julie, a textile designer, reveal an album of pressed algae from Ireland, the Cape of Good Hope and the Port Phillip areas, and the sea-weed collector’s identity.

Brian Fox and Michael Keats ‘Gardens of Stone National Park’ Thursday, 5 October 2017 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Brian and Michael will describe their forays into the wilder parts of the Greater Blue Mountains National Parks. Along with learning about historic map makers and the origins of geographical names, abseiling, pack walking and canyoning add to the diversity of places to be visited and experiences to enjoy.

Brian Fox and Michael Keats jointly published “The Gardens of Stone National Park and beyond”, Books 1 to 6, 2011 to 2015.
