Chris and Michael will reveal how citizen science research by hundreds of Canberrans has contributed to the scientific and wider understanding of Gang-gangs and how this research is to be continued with a focus on trying to answer why the Gang-gang numbers have been stable here, but declined in other places. Our June talk this year will be presented by Dr Mary Hutchison, an oral historian who is preparing an oral history of Back Mountain. Mary will introduce the aims and methods of oral history practice and present initial insights drawn from the progress of her interviews to date. |

Fires of varying intensities have a significant impact on Australia’s landscapes; some plants rely on or respond well to fire, while others are killed by fire. Some plants need continuous water, in wetlands, while others prefer dry conditions. A volunteer guide will show you examples of all of these in a free tour. Daily from Monday June 13th to Sunday June 19th 11am-12 noon. Meet at the clock near the bridge. No booking required for individuals, but groups of seven or more people should contact walks@friendsanbg.org.au a week before the planned walk. |
