2018 Annual General Meeting report
The Friends 30th AGM was held this year on Thursday 27 September at the ANBG Theatrette.
After the President's and Treasurer's reports, the Executive Director Dr Judy West presented her report on the Gardens progress and goals.
At the election for Friends Council, Lesley Jackman retired as President after serving two two-year terms, to be succeeded by Max Bourke. Lynden Ayliffe and Alan Henderson were elected as new ordinary members.
David Coutts (former President and Secretary of Friends Council, and Chair of the Project Committee) was awarded Life Membership.

Friends Annual General Meeting, 27 September 2018
This year’s 2018 AGM will be held on Thursday 27 September at the ANBG, starting with drinks in the Dickson Room from 5pm, with the AGM proper beginning in the Theatrette at 5:30pm. After the formalities, guest speaker Dr Sally Box will tell us about her new job as Threatened Species Commissioner.
This year the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer and three general Council member positions will become vacant. For the Friends to continue, we need to fill these positions. Scooting about the Gardens!
The Friends recently upgraded the mobility scooters at the ANBG, replacing those purchased by the Friends in 2005.

Tree Management at the ANBG
David Taylor, the Curator of Living Collections at the Gardens, has asked if the Friends can publicise the ANBG’s approach to tree management, being undertaken by the tree team, Dan, Anthony, Mark and Pete (returning soon) guided by Phil. As Dave notes, it can be difficult to see large trees go, but his hope is that knowing more about how the ANBG makes such decisions will allow better appreciation of the considered way this happens.

Paperbark Treehouse opens
The Paperbark Treehouse was officially opened on Wednesday 29 November in a lively ceremony by Acting Deputy Secretary Matt Cahill of the Department of the Environment and Energy. The treehouse has been attracting much media interest and many visitors.
This exciting artwork has been underwritten by the Friends and is a major activity of the Public Fund of the Friends. Our thanks to all who have donated so far to the Public Fund campaign: as of last week, the Public Fund had received around $24,000 in donations.

New faces and old friends at the 2017 AGM
The 29th AGM of the Friends was held at the Gardens on Tuesday 31 October.
Three new Council members were elected: Jann Ollerenshaw as Secretary, and Wendy Antoniak and Linda Beveridge as Council members.
The President, Lesley Jackman, welcomed the new members and thanked the retiring Council members (David Cox, Jan Finley, and Rita Maclachlan) for their work and support.
John and Maureen Connolly were invested as life members of the Friends for their excellent and continuing contributions over many years.

Friends' discount at Cool Country Natives plant nursery, Pialligo
The Friends have negotiated a 5% discount for members with Cool Country Natives in Pialligo, an Australian native plant nursery specialising in species for cool climates. Friends claiming the discount will need to show a current Friends of the ANBG membership card. With spring fast approaching this is a lovely time of year to drop in and buy some Australian native plants. The nursery address is 5A Beltana Road Pialligo, on the left as you enter Pialligo.
