The ever-popular Summer Sounds concerts will be held again on the first two weekends in February 2019.

Program for Sunday 10 February:   Annie and the Armadillos with Canberra Swing Katz

Concerts are held on the Eucalypt Lawn at the Gardens in Clunies Ross Street, Acton, on the lower slopes of Black Mountain. Entertainment starts at 5.00 pm, with the concert performances starting at 6pm and finishing at 7.30.

Book online for early bird ticket prices: $7.50 adults, $5 Friends member, concession and students, $3 children; under 3 are free.

Purchase tickets on arrival at the Botanic Gardens: $10 adults, $7.50 Friends member, concession and students, $5 children; under 3 are free.

Do plants evolve differently?  Dr Rob Lanfear  ANBG Theatrette
It's often assumed that animals and plants evolve differently because animals have a segregated germ line but plants don't.  If this is true, then plants should accumulate a lot of heritable and potentially harmful mutations in their genomes as they grow. Recent work, including from my lab, is now challenging this long-held view, potentially upending a century of thinking.

Change of line-up: Unfortunately due to a family emergency, Bewitched will not be able to perform at Summer Sounds this Saturday 2nd February as scheduled.

Black Mountain Weeding Work Party Saturday, 2 February 2019 - 8:30am to 11:30am

We shall focus on removing non-local Sweet Pittosporum (Pittosporum undulatum) (perhaps not really so sweet as a weed!) and Yellow Pittosporum (P. revolutum) and other naturalised woody species in the peripheral areas of the Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG).

Cook and the Pacific – The Australian Plants – Summer Walk Sunday, 20 January 2019 - 9:30am to 10:30am

The exhibition, Cook and the Pacific, and the immersive sound and light experience, Beauty Rich and Rare, at the National Library, may have aroused your interest in the plants collected by Banks and Solander in Australia on Cook’s 1770 voyage. Join a Volunteer Guide on this special one-hour walk visiting some of these plants, which were illustrated by Sidney Parkinson and subsequently published in Banks’ Florilegium. Discover their Aboriginal uses ranging from medicinal to clothing, food to weaponry.

Please note that this walk is also open to the general public. Numbers are limited. Bookings are essential

Butterflies in the ANBG – Summer Walk Sunday, 13 January 2019 - 10:00am to 11:30am

Do you know an Imperial Blue from a Macleay’s Swallowtail? Or an Eastern Flat from a Common Brown? This is a wonderful opportunity to join local expert, Suzi Bond, in observing these elusive creatures in the ANBG.
